Highland Police are investigating robberies in the area after a woman was shot in the leg last night. Police are asking anyone with video or eye witness information to contact investigators at 219-838-9134
June 29, 2018-Highland Police say they are looking at information from a rash of recent robberies throughout Lake County after a woman was shot in the leg in the 8900 block of Pettit Drive last night. According to a statement from Commander John Banasiak, officers were called to the area at approximately 10:40 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Accoding to the report, a woman arrived at a residence and saw a white compact or mid-size vehicle with tinted windows out front. “As the victim exited her vehicle, the offender . . .shouted something to her. The victim observed a handgun and immediately began running away from the suspect, when the suspect fired, striking the victim in the leg.” The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and was wearing a “mardi gras style mask.” The vehicle fled northbound on Pettit after the shooting.
Police say that while the motive is unknown, they are investigating other robberies in the area to see if a correlation exists. Anyone with security video in the area is urged to review that video at the time (10:40 pm on June 28) and report any suspicious activity. Eye witnesses are also encouraged to come forward by contacting investigators at 219-838-3184.
