August 18, 2017-Hammondpolice are urging residents to be on the alert after two rapes occurred in the city’s Hessville section within two weeks of each other. According to a statement from Lieutenant Steven Kellogg, in two separate incidents females were walking when they were approached by a black male, forced into an alley and raped. Police believe the same suspect committed both attacks. The suspect is described as a young black male 5 feet 7 to 5 ft 10 in tall. The suspect was wearing shorts and a dark hoodie in both cases. Hammond Police Chief John Doughty stated investigators are working to solve this case. President should be especially alert and avoid walking alone at night if possible according to Chief Doughty. “Trust your instincts. If you think you are being followed get to a well-lit, busy area” Chief Doughty advised.
