Rash of Violence Claims One Life in Gary Overnight

July 5, 2017-Gary Police received call after call regarding shots fired overnight and one young man lost his life to the violence. Gary Police have not yet issued reports regarding the shootings, but Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey confirms that coroner investigators were called to the 1100 block of Jennings Street at 1:18 a.m. today. Investigators pronounced 18 year old Davion Snow dead at the scene at 1:57 a.m. according to a report by Coroner Frey. Multiple gunshot wounds were noted and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

On social media, first responders were discussing the violence. One police officer commented that there were 8 shootings overnight but the Gazette has been unable to confirm that with Gary officials. On the scanner, dispatch can be heard detailing the wait times for officers in Gary as they went from one call to the next. Just after 5:00 a.m., a dispatcher could be heard saying that a call for a woman who was walking down Lake Street in Miller bleeding from the face had been pending for 26 minutes. A call for a man threatening another with a gun was pending for 50 minutes at approximately 1:00 a.m.

Gary Police officials have not commented on the above reports which are derived from the scanner and sources. We will follow up if additional information is received.
