May 23, 2017-For the second time in less than 24 hours, Gary Police responded to a shooting call that resulted in a death. According to Lt. Dawn Westerfield, “On May 23, 2017 approximately 8:40 am the Gary Police Department responded to the area of 2400 Pierce Street for a male with a gun shot wound. Upon arrival officers observed a male with apparent gun shot wounds inside of a residence. The male was declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
UPDATE: Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has identified the victim as 28 year old DeAngelo Spencer of the 2400 block of Pierce Street, Gary. Multiple gunshot wounds were noted and the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Yesterday Gary Police responded to a shots fired call in the 2100 block of Carolina. In that report Lt. Westerfield stated “on May 22, 2017 approximately 7:30 pm the Gary Police Department responded to a call for service in the 2100 block of Carolina Street regarding a gun shot victim. Upon officers arrival a male was discovered with what appeared to be gun shot wounds. The male was transported to an area hospital where he later perished from his injuries.” Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey identified the victim in that shooting as 39 year old Sherrod Carter of the 2000 Block of Madison Gary, IN. A gun shot wound was noted and the case is being investigated as a homicide according to the report from Coroner Frey.
