February 17, 2017-Lake County Sheriff John Buncich is seeking help from the public in locating a man charged with strangulation, criminal confinement, battery by means of a deadly weapon and battery resulting in serious bodily injury. According to a release from Sheriff John Buncich, ” Lake County Sheriff’s
Department Special Victims Unit Detective Larry Thurmond filed 11 felony charges and 3 misdemeanor charges against Joseph Kubiszewski related to his confining, battering, and strangling a 32-year-old woman of Merrillville, IN between January 30th and February 1, 2017 at an apartment in the 1900 block of W. 52nd Place in Merrillville, IN. These 14 counts have been approved by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, and an active warrant has been issued for Kubiszewski’s arrest.”
The charges came after a 32 year old woman reported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point on February 1, 2017. The woman detailed a harrowing account of being held, beaten and even threatened with a gun to her head for a period of nearly 24 hours according to Sheriff Buncich. Kubiszewski is “alleged to have battered her again at approximately 5:00 AM the following morning and would not allow the victim to leave the apartment. At approximately 3:00 AM on February 1st, the
victim described driving with Kubiszewski when he placed a gun against her head and threatened to shoot her. At approximately 7:00 AM on February 1st, Kubiszewski took the victim’s vehicle, which is a black 1997 Honda Civic, without her consent and has not been located since” the report states.
