2 Year Old Airlifted After Hessville Shooting

July 29, 2020-A child “believed to be approximately two years old” is believed to be in critical condition after being struck by a bullet in the 3300 block of Craig Drive in Hammond. According to Lt. Steven Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Kennedy Crossings Apartments for a call of shots fired at approximately 9:30 p.m. “Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle occupied by a mother and daughter. The child is believed to be approximately 2 years old and was struck by a bullet from an unknown location. “

Hammond Police quickly saturated the area blocking off streets and conducting block by block patrols looking for a suspect. Lake County Police assisted in the search via helicopter.

The mother was not harmed in the incident but was transported to a local hospital.
