December 15, 2019-Hammond Police are on the scene in the 6500 block of Arkansas after a man was brutally attacked in his home. (UPDATE: A source now tells the Gazette that the initial attack likely occurred in the victim’s vehicle). Initial reports indicated that shots were fired at the scene but Police have not confirmed that at this time. According to information derived from the scanner, Police were called to the area at approximately 5:05 p.m. tonight. Upon arrival a male was found bloody with multiple facial wounds. The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake-the region’s trauma center. According to a source, the victim was later airlifted to Chicago due to the extent of his injuries. One first responder described the wounds as “among the worst” ever seen.
Police learned that a maroon vehicle had fled the scene and continued to search the area for at least an hour after the incident. Officers could be seen attempting to locate any potential witnesses in the area.
