October 6, 2019-Hammond Police are investigating after a 6 month old child passed away after in a Chicago Hospital. According to Lt. Steven Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, officers responded to St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago on September 29 after a 6 month old baby was brought in from a Hammond address. According to Lt. Kellogg “the mother of the child called 911 and stated something was wrong with her baby. The Hammond Fire Department transported the baby to the hospital and notified Hammond Police.” The child died on October 5 according to Police.
Lt. Kellogg states that the case is currently under investigation “and will eventually be presented to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for review.”
Neither the name of the child or the parent were released.
A criminal investigation is not evidence of guilt. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
