BREAKING: Gary Officers Frantically Search for 3 Year Old Child After Carjacking

February 14, 2019-Gary Police responded to the 1700 block of W. 5th Avenue at approximately 9:50 p.m. tonight after a caller reported that he was carjacked and his 3 year old child was in the vehicle. Officers spoke with the caller and learned that his cell phone was left in the car according to information derived from the scanner, Gary Police have not yet issued a statement on the incident. Dispatch quickly set up a “ping” to track the phone and guilding Gary and Lake County officers as they searched for the vehicle. The phone pinged to a location in the 600 block of Taft and the vehicle was located but there was no child in the vehicle. A Lake County Officer then could be heard calling for Gary Police to assist at a location in the 700 block of Garfield. The child was safely located.

It is unknown at this time if any arrests were made.
