December 6, 2016-Hammond Police say they have secured murder charges against a 27 year old resident after her child was taken St. Margaret Hospital in an unresponsive state. According to Lt. Steven Kellogg, officers were dispatched to St. Margaret Mercy Hospital at 12:45 p.m. on December 4. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 4 month old infant had been brought to the hospital in an unresponsive state and was pronounced dead. Detectives were called “and learned of multiple injuries to the child. After a thorough investigation, the mother of the infant was charged with Murder, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death, and Battery of a person under the age of 14-years-old” the report states.
Ms. Rodriguez is in custody at the Lake County Jail.
All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
“After a thorough investigation…”
Isn’t this sorta suggestive, giving credibility where may or may not be warranted? Isn’t a conviction the absolute measurement of a thorough investigation?
