“There was a report of a shooting . . .no one was actually shot in the 2600 block of Cleveland Street” Lt. Steven Kellog, Hammond Police Department
November 10, 2018-According to a source close to the investigation, a man reported that he was shot in the stomach while riding a bike in the 2600 block of Cleveland Street last night at 8:03 p.m. EMS, police and firefighters responded and the man was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn according to the source. According to Lt. Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, Police are investigating the incident which but believe the man was not shot at the reported location. “It was a false report . . . no one was actually shot and what did happen is under investigation” Lt. Kellogg stated.
We spoke with a resident in the block who did not want to be identified. The resident stated that she heard police and fire personnel respond and looked outside and saw a man lying on the sidewalk. She did not hear any gunshots or anything out of the ordinary prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
For now, what actually happened will be left to detectives to determine. Residents can take solace in knowing that there was not a shooting incident in Hessville last night. Neither the identity of the victim nor his injuries are known at this time.
