UPDATE: Police Seek Info on Person of Interest in Wal-Mart Shooting

September 30, 2018-Hobart Police responded to the Wal-Mart,2936 E. 79th Avenue in Hobart just before 8:00 p.m. tonight for a report of an active shooter. Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force Commander Don Foley confirmed that there were two victims of the shooting and that one was a child. Neither the age nor the current condition of the victims was known at the time of this report. There were no fatalities.

Commander Foley stated that the shooting began in the parking lot and one person ran into the building. As this individual ran into the building, the suspect continued to fire striking two persons inside the store. Both victims were transported to local hospitals via ambulance according to witnesses on scene. The store was placed on lockdown as police from multiple local jurisdictions, armed with AR-15s, searched the area. Emergency personnel visited residents along Colorado Street immediately adjacent to the parking lot to warn them to stay inside according to one witness on social media.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. police cleared the scene and several shoppers who had been huddled inside for their safety were released.
