October 1, 2018-Hobart Police say that a verbal altercation between two alleged gang members escalated to shooting last night at Wal-Mart, 2936 E. 79th Avenue. According to the statement, “On Sunday, September 30, 2018, at approximately 7:37 PM, Hobart Police were dispatched to call of shots fired at Wal-Mart, 2936 E. 79th Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation between two males, whom were known to each other, inside the store.” As the parties exited the store, one of the individuals began shooting according to the statement. A third party, described as an “associate” of the victim, returned fire according to police.
Shot in the incident were a 25 year old male involved in the verbal altercation and his 9 year old son. Both the 9 year old and his father remain in critical condition at this time according to police. This is not the first time that this victim has been shot. According to the statement, the victim was shot just 6 weeks ago in a separate incident in Gary. “The same 25 year old Gary man was also shot several times 6 weeks earlier in Gary. Hobart Police say the incident is believed to be gang related and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will take over the investigation.
