Man Shot to Death on Hammond/Whiting Border

September 23, 2018-Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has confirmed that a man wa shot to death last night in the 2600 block of White Oak Avenue.   Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey stated that investigators were called to the 2600 block of White Oak Avenue at 11:50 p.m. on September 22, 2018.  An as yet unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene.  The decedant suffered gunshot wounds and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

White Oak Avenue is the dividing line for Hammond and whiting in that area so it is unclear whether or not this occurred in Hammond or Whiting.  Hammond Police responded at approximately 9:43 pm.  According to information derived from the scanner, an arrest was made in the 2000 block of Calumet Avenue shortly after the shooting.  No charges have been filed and no suspects have been identified.

Neither Hammond Police nor Whiting Police have issued a statement regarding the incident yet.

UPDATE:  Hammond Police Spokesperson Lt. Steven Kellogg stated this is a Whiting Homicide on which Hammond provided assistance.  We will update you when we receive information from Whiting Police Department.

  1. It was in Whiting,as much as they want to hush it up.Keep building them apartment buildings and hotels to be like Chicago…you’ll get the **** that goes with it!
