North Newton Schools Confirms “Incident on Bus” Caused School Closure

September 10, 2018-North Newton School Officials say police are still investigating an incident that caused all schools to be closed today.  The District took the unusual step of ordering buses to turn around and return students home early this morning after an incident on a bus caused police to get involved.  The statement reads as follows:

“Student safety is the top priority of the North Newton School Corporation. This morning there was an incident on a a bus on its way to North Newton Jr./Sr. High School. We have limited information to provide for you at this time, but we can share the following:  Newton County Sheriff’s Office is involved and is conductiving an active investigation but have not been able to substantiate the report.  The decision to cancel school was made to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.  Our transportation director and the driver of the bus responded immediately to the report and followed established protocol. We thank both of them for their diligence in ensuring the safety of the students.  We also want to thank the students on the bus for their cooperation with local law enforcement and patience in resolving this incident. We also thank the parents for their support during the course of the investigation. Further information will be provided in the days to come via the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Please know that all students are safe and home and we thank everyone for their patience and support during this time”

  1. Can’t anyone on the good side carry a gun? I’m so upset by the lack of backbone in our leaders. It’s disgracing to say the least. Man Up!
