St. John Police encourage resident to engage in a “9 p.m. routine” of locking doors and securing valuables.
August 30, 2018-St. John Police are reminding residents to keep doors locked after a pursuit of a stolen car resulted in recovery of the car but no arrests. According to a statement from Police Chief James Kveton, “On Thursday August 30, 2018 at approximately 3:43am, officers of the St. John Police Department were dispatched to the area of 105th and Magoun Drive in reference to a vehicle driving in the neighborhood that had been reported stolen out of Illinois. Upon arrival into the area officers located the vehicle, west bound on 105th. When they attempted to stop the vehicle it fled from officers. St. John Police Officers pursued the vehicle into Illinois and then terminated the pursuit in the area of I-394 and I-80/94 due to increased traffic and high speeds.”
Chief Kveton said the stolen vehicle was later located and recovered in Harvey, Illinois but no arrests were made. Chief Kveton warns that thefts, including vehicle thefts, have become prevalent in northwest Indiana in the past few months. “This summer St. John suffered many of these types of crimes. The best way to prevent becoming a victim of this type of crime is to make sure to keep windows, doors and vehicles locked. If you notice something or someone suspicious, call 911 immediately” Chief Kveton stated.
