August 15, 2018-Highland High School and Highland Middle School were placed on a precautionary lockdown at the start of school this morning after police received a call that a suspicious person had entered the building. At approximately 7:25 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was placed stating that a suspicious person had entered Highland High School. According to Commander John Banasiak of the Highland Police Department, that suspicious person was a student who posed no threat to students, faculty or staff. “After police interviewed the caller, the school’s camera system was immediately checked by school staff and tracked the individual and found him to be a current Highland High School Student” Commander Banasiak stated. The soft lockdown lasted approximately 20 minutes as police worked feverishly to assess the threat. The soft lockdown was described as precautionary by Commander Banasiak. Normal school functions resumed after the lockdown.
