Merrillville Shootout Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized

August 5, 2018-Two individuals and two vehicles were shot up early this morning on 79th Place in Merrillville according to Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey and information derived from the scanner. Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has confirmed that an as-yet unknown male was shot in Merrillville overnight. According to the statement from Coroner Frey, investigators were called to the 3900 block of 79th Place at 2:50 a.m. Upon arrival, a male was found to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The case is being investigated as a homicide by Merrillville Police according to the report. Merrillville Police have not released a statement on the incident and generally do not release information regarding crimes in the Town.

According to information derived from the scanner, Merrillville Police were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:16 a.m. Upon arrival officers found 2 individuals that had been shot. Officers noted that two vehicles were on scene. Both gunshot victims were found in one vehicle, the other was unoccupied. Both vehicles had windows shot out. Officers notified local hospitals to be on the lookout for walk-in gunshot victims.

Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey says the decedent was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans, and black Jordan gym shoes. The decedent also is approx. 141 lbs, and has a tattoo on his left forearm, “warrior not worrier”.
