July 25, 2018-Indiana Department of Natural Resource Officers reported that the body of 24 year old Tiara Harvey of Merrillville was located just after 5:30 p.m. last night. According to a statement, “Indiana Conservation Officers located the body of Tiara Hardy on a side scan sonar image at approximately 5:30 this evening. The image was confirmed by the Lake County Marine Unit sonar and divers from the Hobart Fire Department were requested to dive and visually confirm.” Hobart Fire Department divers then went into the water and recovered Tiara at approximately 6:00 p.m. according to the report. No foul play is suspected in the incident according to the report.
Tiara Harvey was last seen struggling in the waters of Lake Michigan off the shore of Miller Beach at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday July 23. Authorities say that Tiara was swimming with two other friends when the high waves and strong currents caused them to attempt to return to shore. A good samaritan was able to help two of the friends return to shore but Tiara Harvey was seen “go under and not return to the surface” according to the report. A search team was assembled from several local agencies and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. That search went late into the night on Monday and resumed early Tuesday morning.
