Police believe this is an isolated incident, all suspects have been apprehended according to Lt. Steven Kellogg
July 16, 2018-Hammond Police say a group of armed men invaded a Hessville home and sexually assaulted a female occupant. According to a statement from Lt. Steven Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, “on July 16th at approximately 9:45 a.m., Hammond Police responded to a home in the 3000 block of Crane Place in reference to an armed home invasion in progress. Witnesses stated that an unknown number of suspects entered the home and displayed multiple firearms in an attempted robbery.” Hammond Police responded and determined that there were 4 suspects in total. Police arrested one suspect in the alley. “As officers secured the area, two additional suspects attempted to flee the residence and were apprehended.” According to information from witnesses on scene, officers then began a house-by-house search utilizing a K-9 officer. The final suspect was ultimately apprehended.
Police say that it is believed that a female resident of the hosue was sexually assaulted while another family member was present in the home. According to the initial call, the homeowner reported “there is a man with a mask in my living room holding a shotgun to my daughter.” It is unknown if that caller was present in the home.
The four suspects have not yet been identified but Hammond Police say they are a 21 year old male, a 19 year old female, an 18 year old male and a 15 year old male. We will have additional information as soon as charges are filed.
