July 2, 2018-According to a statement from Hammond Police Lt. Steven Kellogg, a clerk was injured during a robbery at Family Dollar in the 100 block of Sibley Street last night. “On July 1 at approximately 5:55 pm, Hammond Police responded to the Family Dollar located in the 100 block of Sibley Street in reference to a Robbery that just took place” the report states. According to a witness, a black male approximately 50 years old brought items to the register. “When the clerk began the sale, the male threw a glass bottle in the clerk’s face causing a laceration. The male then grabbed the money from the register and fled the area” the statement continues. The clerk was transported to a local hospital for treatment according to police.
The suspect fled the area in a grey Dodge vehicle. The suspect as described as wearing dark clothing and no further description was provided at this time. The location is feet from the Illinois state line but it is unclear in which direction the suspect fled.
