BREAKING: Two More Shot in Gary

June 24, 2018-According to a source, two more individuals were shot in Gary at approximately 7:30 p.m. tonight police were called to the area of 17th and Taft for a juvenile with a gunshot wound. According to the report, the juvenile was shot in the leg as two cars shot at each other. A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the shooting and stated that the shooting took place at Tolleston Park where two people were shot.

Gary Police searched for a white vehicle and a tan Chevrolet Malibu after the shooting. According to information derived from the scanner, a “black male with dreads” was haning out of the window of the white vehicle with a long rifle shooting at the tan Chevrolet Malibu. The juvenile was shot in the leg. Neither his identity nor his condition is known at this time but he was able to speak to police and provide details of what happened and the vehicle descriptions above. At approximately the same time, in an incident police are calling related, Officer proceeded to 2600 block of W. 17th for another gunshot victim. According to information derived from the scanner, a man was shot and ran into a house at this location. Discussion could be heard over the scanner as to whether the two incidents were related. “So we are marking these two related” one officer asked. Another officer responded “Yes, they are related.” Officers collected shell casings along 15th Avenue between Rutledge and Taft. “About half the block, we’ve got shell casings” an officer reported. Shortly thereafter police stopped a tan Chevrolet Malibu at 7th and Grant. It is not known at this time if any arrests were made.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 4:35 p.m. police responded to J&J Fish for a report of a man who had been shot..

The incident marks the latest in a string of shootings which began at approximately 6:00 p.m. last night. According to information derived from the scanner, at least 11 people were shot in 6 separate incidents. The condition of the victims is unknown this point in time, however, several of the victims walked into the hospital.

In addition to the incidents where victims were reported, Gary Police responded to numerous calls of shootings throughout the City. At approximately 6 pm tonight, police responded to an incident of a vehicle that sustained gunshot damage in the 1300 block of West 36th.
