UPDATE: City of Gary on Virtual Lockdown after ATF Agent Shot in Chest

Agent, a 4 year veteral of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobbacco and Firearms, is expected to recover

June 7, 2018-The Gazette has learned that the agent shot in Gary today is a 4 year veteral of the Bureau and is expected to recover. The identity of the agent has been withheld at this time. The agent was shot in the chest while performing a raid near 5th and Kentucky earlier today. The call came in at 12:02 p.m. and Gary Officers rushed to assist. Shortly after the call for the fallen officer, a call came in for a multiple vehicle accident at 21st and Broadway. A white vehicle with 4 occupants was identified as the suspect vehicle. Despite the activity at 21st and Broadway, agents and officers continued to search the area near 5th and Kentucky for additional suspects. According to information obtained from the scanner, two individuals were believed to be at large.

Federal Agents and local police blanketed the area. A source confirmed that one of the suspects was killed during the incident.

UPDATE: Broadway is expected to be closed at 21st Avenue until at least 5:00 p.m.
