June 7, 2018-The Gazette has confirmed that a United States Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agent has been shot in Gary. Neither the identity nor the condition of the agent is known at this time, but a source confirmed that the agent was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake for treatment of a gunshot wound. The incident occurred at approximately noon today in the 800 block of Kentucky in Gary. Residents are urged to avoid the area if at all possible
UPDATE: Police and federal agents are also on scene of a multiple vehicle crash at 22d and Broadway. While it is believed this accident is related to the shooting, the original incident is believed to have occurred at 8th and Kentucky during a raid.
UPDATE: According to published reports, the officer is believed to have sustained non-life threatening injuries. ATF Public Information Officer Ronnie Dahl of the Chicago Field Division declined to comment on the identity or the condition of the agent.
