May 11, 2018-Hammond Police Officers Schultz, Zembala and Day are being commended after they performed a water rescue this Wednesday. According to a statement from the Hammond Police Department, officers responded to a report of a submerged vehicle in the 7900 block of Corinne Drive at approximately 8:00 p.m. on May 9, 2018. ” Upon arrival, the Officers observed two people floating in the water hanging onto a small log. While assuring the people, Officer Tim Schultz, who works in the canine division, thought quickly and was able to throw out a 30-foot leash to the stranded people” the report states. Officers Schultz, Zembala and Day worked together to get the two individuals safely to the shore according to the statement. Hammond EMS and Fire personnel treated the individuals.
