Man allegedly made two calls to 9-1-1 stating a man had been shot on the bike trail.

April 23, 2018-Hammond Police searched a bike trail near Hammond High School today after a man called 9-1-1 and reported a gunshot victim was on the trail according to Lt. Steven Kellogg. The call came in just before 8:40 p.m. tonight and the victim hung up before providing additional details regardng the incident. A few minutes later a second 9-1-1 call came in which reported a gunshot victim. Dispatch determined that both calls came from the same phone according to the report. Dispatch was able to “ping” the phone and determine that the call came from the area of Sohl and Highland.
Multiple Hammond Police units responded to the area and searched diligently for a gunshot victim. No gunshot victim was found according to Lt. Kellogg. Police did locate an 18 year old male in the area who they believe placed the calls. “Officers checked this male’s cell phone against records and found that this was the male who called in a false report. He was arrested for false reporting.” Charges are pending against this individual.
