Gary Police: 8 Y.O. Child, Mother Shot in Early Morning Incident


April 17, 2018-According to a statement from Lt. Thomas Pawlak of the Gary Police Department, a 28 year old woman and her 8 year old child were shot in an early morning incident.  The incident began with a call for service regarding shots fired in the 1400 block of W. 35th Place at approximately 1:56 a.m.  Upon arrival officers were flagged down by a man who stated to occupants of a house had been shot.  Police discovered that a 28 year old woman and her 8 year old daughter had both suffered gunshot wounds.

The 28 year old woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead that the scene by Lake County Coroner Investigators.  The 8 year old child was transported to a local hospital with what are believe to be non-life threatening injuries.  “The child was shot in the foot” Lt. Pawlak stated.
