Firefighters on scene of Lake Rehabilitation Center dealing with smoke damage after extinguishing fire. No injuries were reported
March 26, 2018-East Chicago Fire Fighters are on scene at the Lake Rehabilitation Center, 5025 McCook, East Chicago after a fire was reported. East Chicago Fire Chief Anthony Serna stated he believed the fire originated in a maintenance room for the elevators. Chief Serna stated he did not believe there were any injuries. Firefighters worked to evacuate the building which housed primarily senior residents. Firefighters are continuing to work to try to clear the building of smoke and residents have returned to a portion of the building that was unaffected by the smoke.
