HAMMOND POLICE ALERT: 25 Y.O. Woman Raped While Walking Dog

“The Hammond Police Department would like to remind the public to stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Stay in well-lit, frequently traveled areas when walking.”

March 23, 2018-Hammond Police have issued an alert to residents after a 25 year old woman was reportedly raped while walking in an alleyway near Columbia Avenue.  “On March 20th at approximately 11:00 p.m., Hammond Police responded to 7100 block of Columbia Ave. in reference to a reported rape. The 25-year-old female victim stated that between 8:00 p.m. – 10:45 p.m., she was walking in the west alley of the 7100 block of Columbia Avenue.  She stated that she was walking her dog when a vehicle drove up behind her and a male driver exited the vehicle and approached her. She states that he then grabbed her and threw her to the ground and raped her. The vehicle is described as a smaller, dark colored SUV with tinted windows. The male subject is described as a black male, late 30’s, goatee, bald, muscular build and over six (6) feet tall. He was wearing a black stocking cap, a black hoodie, and black pants. He had a deep voice and smelled of cigarettes.”
