March 12, 2018-A Demotte man was airlifted after a fiery single vehicle crash on Interstate 65 early this morning. According to a relase from the Indiana State Police, “at approximately 6:30 a.m., yesterday, Sunday, March 11, 2018, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, driven by James E. Wright, 31 of Demotte was northbound on I-65 at the 230 mile marker (this is the Demotte/Roselawn exit) when he had a medical incident. The Corolla went off the roadway, hit a portable construction arrow board, went down into the grassy median, and came to rest facing west bound in a water filled ditch. The Corolla then started on fire.”
Wright was able to get out of his vehice before it became fully engulfed according to the statement. A good samaritan stopped and assisted Wright after he exited the vehicle. Police say the unidentified good samaritan was a semi driver from Fleetwood, PA. Police say Wright was airlifted with “non-life threatening injuries.”
