March 8, 2018-Hammond Police were called to the 1400 block of 175th Street at approximately 6:00 p.m. tonight after neighbors reported that a man “came out of his house and fired three shots.”  Neighbors further reported that the man went back into the home, changed clothes got a rifle and came out and said “if the police show up he is going to kill them.”  Witnesses reported that he then went back into the house and threatened to kill the children inside the house if they said anything.   According to information derived from the scanner, police spoke to 5 witnesses who all told the same story.  Police could be seen blocking 175th Place at the intersection of 175th and Chestnut near the Saxony Townhomes apartments.   Police secured the scene and it is unknown at this time if any arrests were made.

This is a breaking story.  We will update it with additional information as it becomes available.  All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.  A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
