One Dead After Police Involved Shooting at Merrillville Car Dealership

February 14, 2018-Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating after a Merrillville Police Officer fatally shot a suspect in an armed robbery according to Major Crimes Chief Greg Mance. According to a statement, Merrillville police were dispatched to Art Hill Ford, 901 W. Lincoln Avenue at 11:38 a.m. this morning for a report of a male subject chasing an employee with a knife. While en route, officers were notified that the subject had entered a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle near the entrance to the dealership and performed a traffic stop, according to the statement. “During the traffic stop the identified armed suspect was ultimately shot” according to Chief Mance. EMS was called and the suspect was transported to Southlake Methodist Hospital where he died.

Lake County Major Crimes is investigating the incident.
