Officer Involved Shooting at Merrillville Car Dealership


February 14, 2018-Griffith Police Chief Greg Mance has confirmed that the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating after an officer involved shooting in Merrillville earlier today. According to Chief Mance, “the [major crimes] task force has been activated for an officer involved shooting that occurred at 901 W Lincoln Hwy, in Merrillville. This activation was made at the request of Merrillville PD.” Indiana State Police, Lake County Police, Merrillville Police and other departments were on scene at around noon when we visited the site. No one on location would answer questions as to what happened.

In his capacity as Chief of the Griffith Police Department, Mance has been selected to head the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force. The Major Crimes Task Force includes officers from multiple jurisdictions and assists local municipalities in investigating major crimes. Additional details were not available regarding the incident at this time.
