January 9, 2018-A Hammond man was transported to a local hospital and may now face criminal charges after a domestic incident which began in the 2800 block of Gibson Place according to Hammond Police. Lt. Steven Kellogg says police were called at approximately 1:00 a.m. for a call of shots fired. “Upon arrival, officers observed a
33-year-old black female running down the street with her two children ages 10 and 13.” The woman told police that the man she lives with attempted to choke her and burn down her house with her and her children inside. According to the statement, the male poured a flammable liquid throughout the house and tried to keep the woman
from leaving. “The female stated she believed that the male was going to harm her children so she grabbed a firearm from her coat and fired a warning shot to stop the male” according to the report. “The victim then stated that the male kept coming towards her so she fired the gun towards him.” After the male fled the residence, the female fled with her children.
Officers located a 29 year old male with a gunshot wound to the leg and transported him to a local hospital. Police say they expect to file charges against the male later this week.
