Uber Driver Fends off Would-Be Carjacker

January 6, 2018-A driver for the ride-share service Uber said he fired his weapon earlier tonight after a would-be carjacker attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The driver described the horrific incident on social media, saying he was forced to fire 3 shots at the carjacker. The incident occurred in the 6900 block of Van Buren in Merrillville. According to the statement, the passenger pulled a gun as the Uber ride arrived at the stated destination. The driver managed to exit the vehicle and position himself near the rear of the car. At that time, the passenger exited the vehicle with his gun in his hand according to the statement from the driver.

Merrillville Police were called and searched the area. It is unknown if a suspect was apprehended.
