Hessville Homicide Victim Identified

January 6, 2018-A 20 year old Calumet City man died from injuries he received in a shooting incident in Hessville according to an updated report from Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey. Police were called to the 6700 block of New Jersey Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. yesterday after a report of a male shot in the alley. Upon arrival, officers found a man shot to death in a vehicle. Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has identified the man a 20 year old Shermane Sargent of the 100 block of 157th St. in Calumet City IL. Sargent suffered a single gunshot wound and the case is being investigated as a homicide according to Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey.

    This is so very sad that young people are killing one another. I hear gun shots, but it is hard to distinguish those & that of fire works. Maybe Hammond should crack down on the time frame of fireworks being used. It scares the dogs, others just become accustomed to it. Residents behind me shoot off fireworks ALL YEAR, & AT ALL HOURS. Just a thought.
