Gary Police say the 2 homicides appear to be unrelated to one another; a third homicide just outside City limits occurred early this morning
January 5, 2018-Gary Police have released a statement regarding two homicides which occurred in the City overnight. According to Lt. Thomas Pawlak of the Gary Police Department, dispatch received a call of shots fired at approximately 5:45 p.m. last night. Officers responded to the 800 block of S. Lake Street (see map photo above) and found a male in a vehicle slumped over the steering wheel. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey. In a second incident, Gary Police were called to the 2100 block of Harrison at approximately 2:45 a.m. for a call of shots fired. According to a report from Lt. Thomas Pawlak, “Upon arriving officers were met by a male who stated his friend was shot inside the residence. Officers entered the residence and discovered a male, age 25 of Gary, shot multiple times.” Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey pronounced the man dead at the scene. The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family. The incident is being investigated as a homicide. Anyone with information on this incident is urge to contact Sgt.
