Coroner: Merrillville Man Dies from Gunshot Wounds

December 27, 2017-A 27 year old Merrillville man has died from a gunshot wound sustained last night. The Gazette reported that Merrillville police were called to the 2400 block of west 61st Place for a report that two individuals had been shot. At that time, Merrillville Police were conducting an exhaustive search for a known suspect according to information derived from the scanner. Merrillville Police have not issued a statement on the shooting at this time and it is not known if an arrest was made.

Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey states that coroner investigators were called to Methodist Hospital Southlake at 10:51 p.m. 27 year old Ryan Halbe was pronounced dead at 21:58 hours. A gunshot would was noted and the case is being investigated as a homicide by the Merrillville Police Department. Both the decedants home address and the occurrence location were 2400 block or west 61st Place, Merrillville.
