Police say a 16 year old suspect is in custody but they are seeking information regarding others who may be involved
December 22, 2017-According to Lt. Steven Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, a teenager walked up to a woman armed with a semi-automatic handgun and forced her out of her vehicle. “On December 22 at approximately 9 o’clock in the morning, a 37-year-old Hammond woman was pulling into a residence in the 7200 block of Hohman Avenue when a young, heavyset black male approached her. This male was wearing a black hoodie and pointed
a semi automatic firearm at her while telling her to get out of her vehicle. The victim states the suspect then drove north on Hohman Avenue in her vehicle” the report states.
Police were able to trace the vehicle to an alley in East Chicago according to Lt. Kellogg. “The vehicle was parked in an alley [in the 47700 block of Magoun, EC] when Detectives observed four males enter the stolen vehicle. The vehicle had an automatic cut-off switch installed which police activated to avoid a potential vehicle pursuit. When Hammond Detectives approached the vehicle, three of the four males fled the vehicle” Lt. Kellogg stated.
The driver of the vehicle was apprehended immediately. He is a 16-year-old East Chicago resident. This suspect is facing a possession of a stolen vehicle charge.
Hammond Detectives are seeking information about the other remaining involved parties. Anyone with information should contact Hammond Police Detective Sgt. Dave Carter at (219) 852-2984.
