Sheriff Martinez credited detectives for their “round-the-clock efforts, cooperation with the community, and other police agencies for the quick arrest which ended a crime spree that saw three armed robberies in three days.”
December 14, 2017-Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez announced that a second arrest has been made in connection with a string of robberies in South Lake County earlier this month. On December 11, 2017, Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds announced that his officers arrested 47 year old John Smar in connection with the series of robberies. Smar was taken into custody shortly after an armed robbery at Country Kitchen restaurant in Hebron. Videos from the scene of the robbery of LaPosh Salon in Winfiled clearly showed two armed robbers.
According Sheriff’s Spokesperson Emiliano Perez, tips from the public were instrumental in identifying and capturing Stephen Brent Miller, age 46, of Hebron “in connection with the LaPosh Salon and Pizza Hut robberies.” Perez stated “Through tips provided by the community, detectives were able to develop information identifying the second gunman involved in the robberies.” Miller was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery according to the statement. Sheriff Martinez credited detectives for their “round-the-clock efforts, cooperation with the community, and other police agencies for the quick arrest which ended a crime spree that saw three armed robberies in three days.”
It is not clear at this point whether Miller will also be charged with the Country Kitchen armed robbery which occurred in Porter County. Lake County records show that no charges have been filed against alleged co-conspirator John Smar in Lake County.Click here for reuse options!
