Anastacia Maclin Convicted of Theft from Federal Program After Jury Trial

December 14, 2017-United States Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch announced that 46 year old Anastacia Vann Maclin of Merrillville was convicted of embezzlement and theft from the Indiana Medicaid program, after a two-day jury trial before District Court Judge Philip P. Simon. Kirsch says evidence in the case shows that Maclin began working for a physician in East Chicago in January 2015. In April 2015, Maclin began diverting medicaid payments from her employer to a bank account “that only she knew about and controlled” according to the statement. US Attorney Kirsch stated that the fraud continued through July 2016 and $30,000 was diverted to the account. “Maclin also applied for, received and diverted a 2015 bonus payment of more than $20,000 Indiana Medicaid was paying
physicians for using electronic medical records by falsely representing the claim was being submitted by and for her employer.”

This case was the result of a cooperative investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigationand the Indiana Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Diane Berkowitz and Jackie Jacobs.
