December 7, 2017-Gary Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death near 15th and Porter Street Early this morning. According to a release from Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey, investigators were called to 1500 Porter St, Gary at 12:34 a.m. Upon arrival, investigators pronounced an unidentified black male deceased at the scene. Gunshot wounds were noted and the case is being investigated as a homicide. According to information derived from the scanner, Gary Police were called to the area at 12:18 a.m. for a report of a vehicle that struck a tree. Upon investigation, officers learned that the driver had been shot. According to a source, further investigation revealed that a shooting occurred at 15th and Clark Road. Officers were able to obtain a description of a dark, 4 door sedan with the back hubcap missing. Officers searched the area unsuccessfully.
UPDATE: Gary Police Lt. Dawn Westerfield confirmed that officers responded to a crash at 15th and Porter street at approximately 12:15 a.m. “Upon arrival of medics and officers a male was discovered in the vehicle
with gun shot wounds. The male showed no signs of life and was later declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroner’s office.”
