December 1, 2017-A 25 year old Valparaiso man was airlifted after being struck by a train in Valparaiso. According to a release from the Valparaiso Police Department Citizen Observer, officers were called to the area under the Campbell Street Bridge at approximately 11:57 p.m. on November 30 by a bystander who noticed a man lying on the ground calling for help. “The train Engineer advised police the male subject ran out of the tree line and onto the tracks prior to being struck by the train” according to Police. Valparaiso fire/ems arrived and treated the man who, according to the release, was able to speak with emergency personnel on scene. The man was airlifted to a hospital in South Bend and his condition is unknown at this time. Police did not release the identity of the man.
