November 26, 2017-The Lake County Sheriff’s helicopter is an invaluable tool in crimefighting but today the aviation unit was called upon to assist a local fire department with a difficult to access fire. According to a release from Sheriff Oscar Martinez, the Lake Ridge Fire Department was fighting a brush fire near 93rd Avenue but their trucks had difficult accessing the remote area. “Fire units were unable to reach certain spots in the field due to the muddy ground, and trucks getting stuck. The Lake County Sheriff Aviation unit was able to deploy its Helicopter with Bambi Bucket and perform water drops. The Helicopter was able to assist with four water drops and help extinguish the fire and hot spots that were difficult to reach, and preventing spread to nearby homes. Lake Hills, Crown Point, and Cedar Lake Fire Departments all responded, and extinguished fire at approximately 2:15 PM.” the report states.
