Dunes National Lakeshore to Conduct Controlled Burn Today

November 27, 2017-If you live near the Douglas Center in Miller, you may smell or see a lot of smoke in the air today. That is because the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will be conducting a controlled burn of 450 acres in the area. According to a statement, “Fire Staff from Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore plan to burn 450 acres of Oak Savannah west of the Douglas Center for Environmental Education in Gary today. Trails behind the Douglas Center will be closed for today and possibly tomorrow for visitor safety. Follow us here for more information and updates.”
