UPDATE: Victim ID’ed in Hammond Halloween Shooting

19 year old victim of Hammond shooting identified by Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey

November 1, 2017-Hammond Police were called to a grisly scene of 4 shot in the late afternoon hours on October 31.  According to Lt. Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Pointe Drive in Douglas Pointe Apartments at 3:59 p.m. yesterday.  “Upon arrival officers encountered four victims, one of which was deceased” Lt. Kellogg stated. Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has now issued a report, identifying the homicide victim. According to the report, coroner investigators were called to Community Hospital, 901 MacArthur Blvd, Munster. Investigators pronounced 19 year old Khalil Carter of the 500 block of Pointe Drive dead at 4:45 p.m. Khalil suffered multiple gunshot wounds according to the report and the case is being investigated as a homicide by Hammond Police according to the report.

Neither the identities nor the condition of the other three gunshot victims was released. Hammond Police issued a statement immediately after the incident stating the matter was under investigation. No further details have been released at this time
