Valparaiso Schools Issue Warning After Threats of School Shooting

October 28, 2017-Valparaiso High School Principal Dr. Reid Amones utilized school messenger to warn parents about graffiti that “referred to a possible school shooting on or around October the 30th or 31st.” According to the message, the graffiti was erased and cleaned before administration officials saw it. Dr Amones says school officials have “taken every precaution and followed up with every lead available.” Extra police patrols will be at the school on October 30 and 31st as a result of the threat. Dr. Amones concludes by encouraging parents to talk to their children about notifying a staff member or other adult if they see or hear anything out of the ordinary.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to the Valparaiso Police Department by texting TIP (847) 4-1-1. The message text should begin with the word Valpo to ensure proper routing. The Valparaiso Police Department recommends that residents save the number 8-4-7-4-1-1 in their cell phones in order to send tips.
