The investigation is believed to be associated with the East Chicago pipe bomb case.
October 12, 2107-Residents in the 1900 block of Somerset Drive reported moments ago that federal agents were on scene collecting evidence. One neighbor who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that Munster Police blocked off Somerset Drive and 5 or 6 unmarked vehicles approached a home in the block. Federal agents could then be seen exiting the unmarked vehicles and going into the home. The neighbor did not know what, if anything, was removed from the home.
The search is believed to be related to the East Chicago pipe bomb case. On September 6, 2017 a postal worker was injured at the East Chicago post office, 901 E. Chicago Avenue, when a pipe bomb that had been placed in the US Mail exploded. Authorities later learned that two pipe bombs had been mailed and that the intended recipient was an individual who has contracts with the City of Hammond.
