REPORT: Gas Leak Causes Shutdown, Snarls Traffic Near Community Hospital and Munster High School

September 21, 2017-Gazette readers are encouraged to avoid the area near Community Hospital if at all possible. Several readers have reported a large gas main leak has shut down multiple roads in the area. Munster Police and Fire have not yet issued a statement on the incident. “You can see the plume” a friend of the Gazette said in a text message, referring to the gas leak. “We first started smelling gas at around 3:15” a neighbor told us. On social media, multiple residents reported a strong odor of natural gas as from St. Thomas More (Ridge and Calumet) to Columbia and Fisher.

UPDATE: Gas is still leaking as of 7:25 p.m.
