Sheriff Caucus to be Held September 16, 2017

August 25, 2017-The Lake County Board of Elections and Voter Registration has confirmed that there will be a caucus to replace convicted former Sheriff John Buncich on September 16, 2017. The caucus is the statutory procedure wherein precinct committee representatives of the Party vote to fill a vacancy in an elected office. In this case. members of the Democratic Party will vote to replace the convicted Sheriff who they selected for the office on four prior occasions. The caucus is open to the public and will be held at the Lake County Government Center.

We will keep you posted as to who is running when that is available. To date, at least 5 candidates have expressed interest. It is unclear whether all will put their names into the hat for the caucus. Those individuals are:

Oscar Martinez, current Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy
David Dowling, current Chief of Police, Schererville
Richard Ligon, former ROTC commander, retired Coloner United States Army, former US Postal Inspector
Daniel Murchek, current Deputy Chief, Lake County Sheriff’s Department
Mike Brown, current Clerk of the Lake Circuit Court
